Tait TM9700
The TM9700 is Tait's multiband DMR mobile radio for vehicle fleets, configurable for VHF and UHF simultaneously or independently. At 25W output, it delivers superior coverage compared to portable radios and allows over-the-air band reconfiguration without removing the radio from the vehicle. A direct in-vehicle complement to the TP9700 multiband portable.

Overview
Vehicle fleet operators face a specific version of the multiband problem: when a frequency band plan changes or an agency migrates protocols, replacing vehicle-mount radios means pulling units from service, scheduling technician visits, and paying remounting costs across dozens or hundreds of vehicles. It is expensive and operationally disruptive.
The TM9700 covers VHF 136-174MHz and UHF 378-520MHz, configurable individually or simultaneously, with over-the-air band reconfiguration so the radio never needs to be unmounted. Power output is selectable at 25W, 10W, 5W, or 1W. It supports Conventional Analog, MPT1327, DMR Tier 2, and DMR Tier 3 Trunking across 1,000 standard channels (2,000 with software license). Analog sensitivity is 0.22uV (-121dBm VHF, -120dBm UHF) at 12dB SINAD. DMR sensitivity is 0.25uV (-119dBm) at 1% BER. GNSS Location Services and Tait GeoFencing integrate with fleet management software for real-time vehicle tracking.
The TM9700 carries an IP54 rating and exceeds MIL-STD-810G for humidity, sand and dust, vibration, shock, and rain. Operating temperature range is -30 degrees C to 60 degrees C. OTAP compatibility allows over-the-air configuration updates, and the radio integrates with Tait fleet management software for centralized control of deployed units.
Key Features
Simultaneous VHF and UHF Operation
The TM9700 can operate on VHF and UHF bands independently or simultaneously, making it a fit for fleets that work across jurisdictions or agencies on different frequency plans. Bands are not locked at manufacture and can be reconfigured over the air without a technician visit or vehicle downtime.
25W Selectable Output Power
With selectable power at 25W, 10W, 5W, and 1W, the TM9700 delivers vehicle-class transmit power that extends coverage beyond what a portable radio can achieve. The 25W setting is the primary argument for in-vehicle communications in transit, utilities, and public works operations that need reliable range in poor RF environments.
GNSS Fleet Tracking
Integrated GNSS Location Services with Tait GeoFencing provides real-time vehicle position data for dispatch and supervisors. GeoFencing enables automated alerts and actions based on vehicle location, supporting applications such as geofenced zone arrival notifications and unauthorized movement detection.
Lone Worker Safety
Lone Worker is a standard feature with automated dispatch alerts if a driver or solo operator fails to check in within a defined interval. Pre-set status messages and short data messaging add structured communication options without requiring voice calls, reducing channel congestion for dispatch-heavy operations.
OTAP Remote Programming
OTAP (Over-the-Air Programming) compatibility allows fleet administrators to push configuration updates across vehicle-mounted radios remotely. This eliminates the need to pull vehicles from service for channel plan updates or firmware changes, which is a significant operational cost reduction for large mixed-band fleets.
DMR Tier 3 Trunking
Supports the full protocol stack from Conventional Analog and MPT1327 through DMR Tier 2 and DMR Tier 3 Trunking. This gives transit agencies, utilities, and municipalities a migration path from legacy networks to DMR without replacing vehicle-mount hardware at each stage.
