Engineered Coverage. Not Off-the-Shelf Guesswork.
Custom radio system design from single-site offices to multi-campus deployments. Site surveys, coverage analysis, frequency coordination, and full installation.
Overview
A radio system that works in a parking lot demonstration fails in a hospital, a mine, or a 200-mile dispatch network. The gap between a demonstration and a real deployment is engineering. Without it, you find the dead zones after you go live, not before.
VEI's engineering team has been designing radio systems since 1997. We start every project with an on-site survey, measuring your terrain, building materials, RF interference sources, and user density. From that data we build a propagation model that shows exactly where signal reaches and where it does not, before a single piece of hardware ships. You see the coverage map before you approve the design.
For single-site operations the design phase runs a few hours. For multi-campus deployments or county-wide public safety networks it runs several days and includes frequency coordination with the FCC to prevent interference with neighboring systems. We handle every layer of the system: antenna placement, repeater configuration, dispatch console integration, backhaul connectivity, and power redundancy. What you get is a system built for your specific site conditions, not a template from a product catalog.
Everything This Service Covers
On-Site Survey
Every system design starts with a physical site visit. We measure RF signal levels, identify interference sources, and assess building materials that affect propagation. This field data drives every design decision that follows.
Propagation Modeling
We build a coverage model using real terrain data and measured RF conditions from your site. The output is a signal map showing exact coverage contours across your geography. You review and approve the coverage plan before we specify a single component.
Multi-Site Architecture
For operations spanning multiple buildings, campuses, or counties, we design the site interconnects, backhaul links, and controller configurations that make the entire system behave as one. Handoffs between sites are transparent to users.
Redundancy & Failover
Mission-critical systems need to work when power fails and when hardware fails. We design generator backup, UPS systems, and redundant control paths into every public safety and critical infrastructure deployment from the start.
Frequency Coordination
Interference from neighboring radio systems can cripple a new deployment. We identify available frequencies in your area, coordinate with adjacent license holders, and file FCC applications before installation begins. Your frequencies are clean on day one.
Installation & Commissioning
Our technicians handle tower work, equipment mounting, cable routing, and desk-side programming. Every channel, talk group, and site handoff is tested before we hand the system over. You get a commissioning report documenting measured performance at every site.
Our Process
Site Survey
On-site measurement of terrain, building materials, RF environment, and user requirements. We map the real conditions your system will face.
Coverage Modeling
We build a propagation model predicting signal strength across your coverage area. You see the map before we quote the hardware.
System Architecture
Repeater placement, antenna design, console integration, backhaul, and redundancy. Every component specified for your site.
Installation & Commissioning
Tower work to desk-side programming. We test every channel, every talk group, and every handoff point before handover.
