Tait TP9900

The TP9900 is the only portable radio that combines P25 Phase 1 and Phase 2 trunking with full DMR Tier 2 and Tier 3 operation in a multiband platform. It is designed for public safety agencies that need to communicate across both P25 and DMR networks during mutual aid and multi-agency response, eliminating the need to carry two radios. FIPS 140-2 certified encryption meets federal government security requirements.

Overview

In mutual aid and multi-agency emergency response, the radio problem is almost never about one agency's network. It is about communicating with partners who are on a different protocol. An agency running P25 Phase 2 cannot talk directly to a neighbor on DMR Tier 3 without a gateway, and gateways introduce latency, complexity, and single points of failure.

The TP9900 eliminates the gateway requirement entirely for officers carrying the radio. It covers VHF 136-174MHz, UHF 378-520MHz, 700/800MHz 757-870MHz, and 900MHz 896-941MHz with 5W output (6W VHF). It operates on P25 Conventional, P25 Trunking Phase 1 and Phase 2, DMR Tier 2, DMR Tier 3, and Analog Conventional from a single radio, with 1,000 standard channels and 2,000 via software license. The 3W speaker includes dual-microphone active noise cancellation in both analog and digital modes. Battery life is 19 hours in TDMA mode at 5W with the high capacity battery, covering a full extended shift.

FIPS 140-2 certified AES, DES, and ARC4 encryption meets federal government procurement requirements for Homeland Security grants and CJIS-compliant deployments. Man Down and Lone Worker are standard. MIL-STD-810G certification covers shock, vibration, heat, and rain. Analog signaling includes Two Tone decode, MDC1200, CTCSS, DCS, and Selcall for compatibility with legacy analog infrastructure still in use across many regional communication systems.

Key Features

P25 Phase 1 and 2 Plus Full DMR

The TP9900 is the only multiband portable that combines P25 Phase 1 FDMA, P25 Phase 2 TDMA trunking, DMR Tier 2 Conventional, and DMR Tier 3 Trunking in a single device. This eliminates the requirement for two separate radios during mutual aid events where partner agencies operate on different protocols.

FIPS 140-2 Certified Encryption

The TP9900 carries a FIPS 140-2 certified encryption module supporting AES, DES, and ARC4 algorithms. This is a mandatory requirement for agencies receiving federal Homeland Security and DHS grant funding, and for any deployment requiring CJIS-compliant encrypted voice communications.

19-Hour Shift-Length Battery

Rated 19 hours in TDMA mode at 5/5/90 duty cycle at 5W with the high capacity battery, the TP9900 matches the TP9700 and TP9800 for runtime. At 13.42 oz total with the high capacity battery and no antenna, it delivers all-day operation without a mid-shift battery swap for most public safety deployments.

Analog Signaling for Legacy Compatibility

Full analog signaling support includes Two Tone decode, MDC1200, PL (CTCSS), DPL (DCS), and Selcall. This means the TP9900 can operate on legacy analog infrastructure that many regional communication systems still use, bridging the gap between fully digital agencies and those that have not yet migrated.

Man Down and Emergency Key Standard

Man Down and Lone Worker alerts are standard features with automated dispatch notification. The programmable emergency key provides a dedicated one-button distress signal. Voice annunciation of channel, zone, and battery level reduces the need to look at the display during high-stress situations.

Integrated GNSS with GeoFencing

Integrated GNSS supports Tait Location Services for real-time officer position reporting. Tait GeoFencing provides automated location-based actions, such as alerting command when officers enter or exit defined perimeters during an incident. Bluetooth supports wireless voice accessories for hands-free operation.
