Tait TB9400
The TB9400 is Tait's flagship P25 base station and repeater, supporting P25 Phase 1, P25 Phase 2, DMR Tier 2 and 3, and analog simulcast from a single 4U rack unit. Programmable output from 10W to 100W in 1W steps, Linear Simulcast Modulation, and remote IP management make it the infrastructure backbone for mission-critical P25 and DMR networks at any scale.

Overview
Agencies building or upgrading radio infrastructure face a common planning problem: the protocol they deploy today may not be the only protocol they need in five years. A base station locked to P25 Phase 1 cannot serve DMR users or run Phase 2 TDMA without additional hardware, which means infrastructure that requires replacement rather than reconfiguration as requirements evolve.
The TB9400 resolves this with a single base station that runs P25 Phase 1, P25 Phase 2 with Linear Simulcast Modulation, DMR Tier 2, DMR Tier 3, and Analog Simulcast IP from the same hardware. Frequency coverage includes VHF 136-174MHz, UHF 400-520MHz in three sub-bands, and 700/800MHz 762-776 and 850-870MHz. Output is programmable from 10W to 100W in 1W steps for the 100W model, or 5W to 50W in 1W steps for the 50W model, providing precise RF power management for simulcast coverage planning. P25 sensitivity is 0.22uV (-120dBm) at 1% BER, TIA-102 compliant. Analog sensitivity is -119dBm at 12dB SINAD.
The TB9400 is a 4U rack unit at 7 x 19 x 15.8 inches, managed entirely via remote IP connectivity with inbuilt diagnostics and access control. Military standard certification covers altitude, humidity, vibration, and shock. Operating temperature is -30 degrees C to 60 degrees C. TaskBuilder allows site-specific operational rules without custom software. The TB9400 is the base station counterpart to the TN9400 trunked core network controller, forming a complete Tait P25 infrastructure solution.
Key Features
Multi-Protocol: P25, DMR, and Analog
A single TB9400 runs P25 Phase 1, P25 Phase 2, DMR Tier 2, DMR Tier 3, and Analog Simulcast IP without hardware changes. This eliminates the need to install separate base stations per protocol at mixed-use sites, reduces rack space requirements, and simplifies infrastructure planning for agencies supporting multiple user groups on different systems.
100W Programmable in 1W Steps
Output is programmable from 10W to 100W in 1W increments for the 100W model, providing precise RF power management for simulcast site coverage planning. This level of control is essential in simulcast networks where tight power calibration between sites prevents co-channel interference and maximizes coverage consistency.
P25 Phase 2 with Linear Simulcast Modulation
P25 Phase 2 TDMA doubles channel capacity compared to Phase 1 FDMA on the same RF spectrum. Linear Simulcast Modulation (LSM) improves coverage consistency in simulcast deployments, reducing the overlap zone distortion that affects conventional simulcast systems. This combination significantly increases network efficiency and coverage quality.
Remote IP Management and Diagnostics
The TB9400 is fully managed via IP connectivity with inbuilt diagnostics and remote access control. For agencies operating distributed site infrastructure, this means site performance monitoring, configuration changes, and fault diagnosis can be performed without dispatching a technician to the physical site, reducing maintenance overhead significantly.
TaskBuilder Site Automation
TaskBuilder allows configuration of site-specific operational rules and automation workflows without writing custom software. Common applications include automatic failover responses, status-based channel switching, and alert routing. This gives network operators site-level behavioral control without requiring custom engineering at each location.
TN9400 Network Controller Integration
The TB9400 is designed as the base station component of a complete Tait P25 trunked network, pairing with the TN9400 trunked core network controller. Together they provide a complete Tait P25 infrastructure solution from the site RF layer through to the network trunking intelligence, with a single vendor for both components.
