Icom VE-PG4

The VE-PG4 bridges IDAS, analog, P25, and DMR radio traffic with SIP phones in one RoIP gateway, so dispatch runs mixed radio and IP telephony through a single box instead of stacking separate gateways. A built-in SIP server, IP-PBX, and VPN router fit into a chassis half the width of a 19-inch rack, weighing 1.8 kg. Three USB 3.0 ports and a WAN/LAN-selectable Gigabit RJ-45 fit dispatch centers and comms rooms consolidating radio and IP gear.

Overview

Agencies and businesses running IDAS, P25, DMR, and analog fleets alongside SIP-based IP telephony end up stacking a separate box for every protocol: one gateway for radio bridging, another for SIP, another for the IP-PBX, another for VPN routing. Each added box means more rack space, more configuration to keep in sync, and more places for a setting conflict to break interoperability between systems that need to talk during an incident.

The VE-PG4 folds RoIP bridging, a SIP gateway, an IP router, an IP-PBX, and an IP communication terminal controller into one unit. It interconnects IDAS conventional and trunking systems, wireless LAN, analog, P25, and DMR radios with SIP phones, and its built-in SIP server assigns IP phone numbers to extension groups with DID support for Panasonic KX-UT and KX-HDV IP phones. The router side runs LAN, DHCP client, static IP, or PPPoE with a VPN tunnel for secure connections over the internet, and call recording to an external USB drive covers up to four programmable settings across All, Group, or Individual call types.

The VE-PG4 occupies only half the width of a 19-inch rack and weighs 1.8 kg (main unit), with a footprint of 213 x 36.8 x 270 mm. It runs on 12 V DC at up to 4 A from the supplied 100-240 V AC adaptor, rated for 0 to +40 deg C and 5-95% humidity with no condensation. Automatic and online firmware updates, backup and restore settings, and built-in ping and traceroute tests support remote maintenance, making it a fit for dispatch centers, comms rooms, and any site bridging land mobile radio with IP telephony.

Key Features

Multi-Protocol RoIP Bridging

The VE-PG4 interconnects IDAS conventional and trunking systems, wireless LAN, analog, P25, and DMR radios with SIP phones in a single unit. It combines RoIP, a SIP gateway, an IP router, an IP-PBX, and an IP communication terminal controller instead of requiring a separate box for each function.

SIP Server and IP-PBX

A built-in SIP server assigns IP phone numbers to extension groups, and the VE-PG4 can also connect to an external SIP server as a client. DID (Direct Inward Dialing) is supported for use with Panasonic KX-UT and KX-HDV series IP phones.

Remote Network Management

The VE-PG4 supports LAN, DHCP client, static IP, or PPPoE connections, and its VPN function creates a secure IP tunnel over the internet. Automatic and online firmware updates handle remote maintenance, with settings saved to a backup file and easily restored.

USB Call Recording

Incoming and outgoing calls record to an external USB drive connected to the VE-PG4, with up to four programmable recording settings. Recording type is selectable from All, Group, or Individual calls, and a Monitor function transfers received audio to another device.

GPS Position Tracking

GPS position and status information from IP501H/IP501M LTE transceivers can be received by the VE-PG4 and transferred to a PC to track radio users or a vehicle. GPS mapping software is required to use the location data.

Half-Rack Chassis with Remote Diagnostics

At 213 x 36.8 x 270 mm and 1.8 kg, the VE-PG4 occupies only half the width of a 19-inch rack and installs alongside repeaters and switching hubs. Built-in ping and traceroute tests, plus abnormal condition monitoring for LAN port link-down and SIP server registration errors, support remote diagnostics.
