Icom IC-FR5300

The IC-FR5300 is a second-generation IDAS repeater that scales from a single site into digital simulcast or multi-site trunking with an optional controller board. It runs 32 channels at 50 watts (50% duty) or 25 watts at full duty, and a dual RF module bay fits two channels in one 2U rack-mount chassis. Digital/analog mixed mode keeps legacy and IDAS terminals on one channel plan, for business radio systems adding coverage without a full replacement.

Overview

Growing a two-way radio system usually means an expensive fork: rip out the base station and replace it, or live with coverage gaps as more users, buildings, or sites come online. Public safety and utility operators feel this hardest, since a single-site repeater that worked fine at launch can't cover a second building or tower without a new radio, and budget cycles rarely line up with when that gap shows up.

The IC-FR5300 is built to grow instead of get replaced. It ships as a single-site IDAS repeater running 32 channels and 50 watts of RF output (50% duty cycle), or a full 100% duty cycle at 25 watts, with an optional UR-PA5000/UR-PA6000 amplifier pushing output to 100 watts at 50% duty cycle. An optional UC-FR5300 network/controller board and GNSS antenna add digital simulcast, holding +/-0.1 ppm frequency stability off a 1 pps GNSS reference so multiple repeaters pair on one network. The same board upgrades the unit to single-site or multi-site IDAS trunking, with compatible radio terminals required for multi-site. A second internal RF module bay runs two independent channels from one chassis, and digital/analog mixed mode with CTCSS, DTCS, and RAN tone decoding keeps legacy analog fleets working alongside new digital terminals.

Rated MIL-810G for temperature, humidity, dust, vibration, and shock, and built to run from -30C to +60C (-22F to +140F), the IC-FR5300 fits a standard 19-inch, 2U rack mount at 5.78 kg (12.7 lb). It's the base station for business radio dealers and public safety teams building out multi-site IDAS networks one site at a time.

Key Features

Digital Simulcast Coverage

An optional UC-FR5300 network/controller board and GNSS antenna add digital simulcast, holding +/-0.1 ppm frequency stability off a 1 pps GNSS reference so multiple repeaters pair on the same network and extend coverage.

Single- and Multi-Site Trunking

Start on the UC-FR5300 #11 board for single-site trunking, then move to the #13 board for multi-site trunking as your system grows. Multi-site trunking requires compatible IDAS radio terminals in the field.

Two Channels, One Chassis

An internal bay accepts a second optional UR-FR5300/UR-FR6300 RF module, so two independent channels run out of a single 2U rack-mount unit, with front-panel LEDs reporting the status of each channel.

50W Output, Scalable to 100W

Runs 50 watts at a 50% duty cycle or a full 100% duty cycle at 25 watts. Add the optional UR-PA5000/UR-PA6000 amplifier and output climbs to 100 watts at 50% duty cycle, or 50 watts at 100% duty cycle.

Digital/Analog Mixed Mode

Receives and transmits analog or IDAS digital on the same channel, decoding up to 16 CTCSS, DTCS, and digital RAN codes per channel so legacy analog radios and new digital terminals share one system.

MIL-810G Rack-Mount Durability

Tested to MIL-810G for temperature, humidity, dust, vibration, and shock, and rated to operate from -30C to +60C. Fits a standard 19-inch, 2U rack mount at 12.7 lb.
