Icom IC-F8101

The IC-F8101 delivers beyond-line-of-sight HF communication where VHF, UHF, and cellular coverage stop, with 0.5-29.9999 MHz receive coverage and up to 125W PEP output across SSB, AM, CW, and data modes. Built-in ALE and CCIR493-4 Selcall auto-link 500 memory channels, and DSP-driven Clear Talk keeps audio clean over noisy HF paths. MIL-STD-810G tested and IP54 rated for mining, disaster response, and remote sites past repeater range.

Overview

Once a crew moves past the reach of VHF or UHF repeaters and cell towers, most two-way radios go silent. Pipeline patrols, mining operations, disaster response teams, and vessels working open water need a way to talk across hundreds of miles with no infrastructure in between, and they need the call to land the first time, not after a manual band search.

The IC-F8101 covers 0.5 to 29.9999 MHz on receive and 1.6 to 29.9999 MHz on transmit, running SSB, AM, CW, and data modes at up to 125W PEP on Export/USA versions (100W on Australia versions), with 50W and 10W power steps available. Built-in ALE automatically selects the clearest channel and links two stations using MIL-STD-188-141B and FED-STD-1045A standards, while CCIR493-4 Selcall handles selective calling, emergency calls, and status calls across 500 onboard channels, backed by 500 Selcall and 500 ALE address memories. DSP-driven Clear Talk separates noise from voice, and a USB port adds HF email and CI-V remote control from a connected PC.

The radio ships as an RF unit with controller head, or in remote-head and remote-mic configurations for tight vehicle cabs, and weighs 3.9 kg (8.6 lb) at 174x62x259 mm in its controller-attached form. It's tested to MIL-STD-810G for shock, vibration, temperature, and humidity, and rated IP54 for dust and water resistance, with matching IP54 cables and connectors. That combination puts it to work in mining trucks, disaster-response vehicles, agricultural fleets, and any fixed or mobile site where cellular and repeater coverage simply doesn't reach.

Key Features

Automatic Link Establishment (ALE)

Built-in ALE automatically selects the clearest channel and establishes contact using MIL-STD-188-141B and FED-STD-1045A standards, with individual call, net call, sounding, AMD messaging, and LQA polling for interoperability with other 2G ALE radios.

CCIR493-4 Selcall

4-digit and 6-digit open-standard Selcall handles selective calling, phone calls, message calls, position calls, status calls, emergency calls, and channel tests, with 500 Selcall and 500 ALE address memories on board.

Remote Stun and GPS Tracking

Owner password-enabled stun lets you remotely disable a lost or stolen radio, and with the optional UX-248 GPS unit the F8101 reports position for Automatic Vehicle Location tracking.

DSP Clear Talk Audio

Digital Signal Processing separates noise from signal for clearer receive audio, backed by 4.0W of audio output at 10% distortion into a 4-ohm load, with a flexible digital IF filter for narrow-band signals.

MIL-STD-810G Build with IP54 Rating

Tested to MIL-STD-810G for temperature, shock, vibration, humidity, and low pressure, with an IP54 dust and water-resistant enclosure and IP54-rated cables and connectors for remote-site reliability.

USB PC Connectivity

A USB port supports HF email, CI-V remote control, and modulation input direct from a PC, and an internal expansion slot accepts the optional RapidM TC4 or TC4-LP data modem for HF email and 256-bit AES encryption.
