Icom IC-F52D / IC-F62D

The IC-F52D and IC-F62D are Icom's smallest waterproof IDAS portables, built for fleets migrating off legacy F50/V analog. You get 512 channels across 128 zones, up to 5 watts of output, built-in Bluetooth for wireless audio and programming, and IP67/66/55/54 sealing. MIL-STD-810 G toughness and an intrinsically safe UL version fit utilities, industrial plants, and hazardous-location crews.

Overview

Fleets running Icom's F50/V analog portables face a familiar bind: dispatch wants digital coverage and better audio, but replacing every radio at once is a budget and logistics problem. Meanwhile technicians in plants, utilities, and hazardous work areas still need a radio that survives submersion, drops, and vibration, not just a spec sheet upgrade.

The IC-F52D (VHF, 136-174 MHz) and IC-F62D (UHF, 350-400/400-470/450-512/450-520 MHz NXDN, or 400-470 MHz dPMR) answer that with 512 channels and 128 zones, three power tiers (5W Hi, 2W L2, 1W L1), and analog/digital mixed operation so a fleet migrates radio by radio, not all at once. NXDN conventional runs out of the box, with NXDN Type-D trunking and dPMR mode 3 trunking available as license-key upgrades. Built-in Bluetooth handles wireless audio and wireless programming, OTAP reconfigures radios in the field over the air, and digital and analog voice scramblers add low-level encryption.

The main unit weighs 125 g (4.4 oz) and measures 56 x 91.5 x 36.5 mm (2.2 x 3.6 x 1.4 in) with the BP-294 battery, yet it is MIL-STD-810 G tested for shock, vibration, temperature, humidity, salt fog, and immersion, and rated IP67/66/55/54 for waterproof and dust-tight protection. It runs from -30 deg C to +60 deg C (-22 deg F to +140 deg F), and an intrinsically safe F52D-UL/F62D-UL version meets ANSI/TIA-4950-A and ANSI/UL 121201 for Division 1 and 2 Class I hazardous locations, a fit for utility crews, industrial plants, and oil and gas sites migrating to digital on their own schedule.

Key Features

NXDN IDAS Digital Migration

Analog/digital mixed operation lets a mixed fleet move off F50/V analog at its own pace. NXDN conventional runs out of the box, with NXDN Type-D single/multi-site trunking and dPMR mode 3 trunking available as license-key upgrades.

Built-in Bluetooth

Wireless audio accessories and wireless radio programming run over built-in Bluetooth, no cables required for headsets, speaker-mics, or field reprogramming.

IP67/66/55/54 Waterproof & Rugged

Submersible sealing across four ingress protection ratings, backed by MIL-STD-810 G testing for shock, vibration, high and low temperature, humidity, salt fog, and immersion.

Man Down & Lone Worker Safety

Motion/stationary detection triggers automatic alerts, an emergency key places one-touch emergency calls, and voice recording/playback captures up to 8 minutes of audio.

Over-the-Air Programming

OTAP reconfigures in-field radios remotely, OTAU updates repeater channel data and site codes over the air for NXDN Type-D trunking, and OAA sends your name or alias with every call.

Voice Scrambler Encryption

Digital voice scrambler adds low-level encryption on digital channels, analog voice scrambler (inversion) covers analog channels, and tactical group temporarily reconfigures talkgroups for the job at hand.
