Overview

Fleet managers running basic analog systems get stuck between two bad options: keep aging radios that lack real signaling capacity, or fund a full digital migration the budget does not support yet. Public safety, utility, and light commercial operations still need a mobile that covers a wide VHF or UHF range, handles multiple talk groups, and survives a truck cab, without a forced jump to trunked digital infrastructure.

The IC-F5021 (VHF, 136-174 MHz) and IC-F6021 (UHF, 400-470 or 450-512 MHz) answer that with 50 and 45 watts of RF output and 128 channels split across 8 memory zones, each identifiable by an 8-character name. Built-in CTCSS/DTCS, 2-Tone, and 5-Tone encode/decode set up talk groups and quiet standby with no add-on boards, and up to ten 2-Tone and eight 5-Tone codes decode on a single channel. MDC 1200 signaling adds radio kill, stun, and revive to lock out a lost or stolen unit over the air until a password restores it. Scanning changes automatically with the operating channel, and an optional OPC-1939 ACC cable extends control to an external device for up to 16 preprogrammed channels.

At 150x40x167.5 mm (5.91x1.57x6.59 in) and 1.1 kg (2.4 lb), the F5021 series mounts without crowding the cab, and its 4-watt front speaker stays clear over road noise. The die-cast chassis and polycarbonate front panel are tested to MIL-STD-810G, with frequency stability held to +/-2.5 ppm. It is built for small-to-mid-sized systems, public safety fleets, large industry, and light commercial operations that need dependable analog performance.

The IC-F5021 puts out 50 watts on VHF (136-174 MHz) and the IC-F6021 delivers 45 watts on UHF (400-470 or 450-512 MHz), with current drain rated at 14.0 A on transmit. Frequency stability holds to +/-2.5 ppm across the band.

128 Channels, 8 Zones

Up to 128 memory channels split across 8 zones, each identifiable by an 8-character name and selected with simple up/down buttons. Channel spacing runs 12.5 kHz or 15 kHz.

Analog Signaling Built In

CTCSS/DTCS, 2-Tone, and 5-Tone encode and decode come standard for setting up talk groups, PTT ID, and quiet standby, with up to ten 2-Tone and eight 5-Tone codes decodable per channel. MDC 1200 signaling is available with limited functions.

Radio Kill, Stun, and Revive

If a radio is lost or stolen, the kill and stun commands lock out all functions over the air until a revive command or password is entered, cutting off unauthorized listeners.

MIL-STD-810G Rugged Chassis

An aluminum die-cast chassis and polycarbonate front panel are tested to MIL-STD-810G, and the unit weighs 1.1 kg (2.4 lb) at 150x40x167.5 mm (5.91x1.57x6.59 in), built to run in trucks, warehouses, and utility vehicles.

External Channel Control

The single 40-pin option slot and optional OPC-1939 ACC cable let an external device control up to 16 preprogrammed channels, plus ignition sensing, external PTT, horn honk, and audio input and output.
